In September 2015, the Swindon Museum & Art Gallery Trust was formed, in partnership with Swindon Borough Council, to create a new world-class museum and art gallery in Swindon.
We will engage visitors with Swindon’s heritage of creativity and innovation, drawing from its past to inspire its future. We will support Swindon to bring cultural and economic benefit to all.
The capital project is likely to be financed through a range of sources, including Swindon Borough Council, the Swindon & Wiltshire LEP, and support from private donors, grants and sponsorship.
Swindon Borough Council have previously committed £5 million along with making land available, whilst the Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership have earmarked £1.35 million. We are grateful to have received support from a range of organisations, along with significant personal donations from our former Chair, Robert Hiscox. We will also need the support of additional companies, trusts, and individuals, to help us to transform the town for its people and for the benefit of the entire region.
The Swindon Collection is one of the most distinguished regional collections of modern British art in the UK. The collection deserves to be widely known and recognised, and to be used imaginatively to stimulate the enjoyment of art in a new generation.
